ROADBLOCKS: The Woodbury Police Department will be conducting safety and sobriety checkpoints during the Labor Day weekend on Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 4. These roadblocks will be held in conjunction with the Governor’s Highway Safety Offices’ Click It Or Ticket Campaign. The roadblocks will be held on Highway 53 and Highway 70 here in Woodbury. “We are committed to making the Town of Woodbury a safer place over the upcoming holiday weekend. Be sure to drive soberly and buckle up,” Chief Tony Burnett said.

175TH ANNIVERSARY: September 12, Prosperity Baptist Church of Auburntown will celebrate 175 years as an organized church. The special day begins with Sunday School at 10 a.m. with Worship Service at 11 a.m. Former pastor, Dr. James Hutchings of Chattanooga, to preach. Noon luncheon to follow and a singing in the afternoon at 2 p.m. featuring the Beelers of Knoxville. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate with us.

PHOTO CONTEST: Beginning Sept. 1 and ending Sept. 30, a Banner Photo Contest will be sponsored by the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce. The banner is the part of a web page at the top that features a horizontally oriented picture. Interested contestants can submit photos that represent various aspects of the community; images that show the beauty and diversity of Cannon County. Images must be in JPEG format and must be cropped to 940 pixels wide x 180 pixels tall, as they must fit the format of the banner. Any other formats or sizes will be rejected. Submissions will be limited to two per email address. The contest will accept the first 300 images submitted in the proper format. The Chamber of Commerce will choose the top 10 images that best reflect the community. Those 10 images will then be put on the website for the banner competition. For 1 week website visitors will get to choose their favorite 5 images. The 5 winners will be up on CannonTN.com  rotating banner for six months. All submissions become the property of CannonTN.com and the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce.  Winners names will be displayed on the website. If images contain discernible people, releases will need to be signed and received before the pictures can be posted. Any questions about the site should be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce office at chamber@cannontn.com. Please submit your banner contest entries to bannersubmissions@cannontn.com

SCOUT TIME: The Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, Service Unit 158 serving Cannon and part of Rutherford County, are having an interest and registration meeting on Tuesday, August 31 at the Cannon County Community Center beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. There’s a Girl Scout experience for every type of girl, to fit nearly every interest!
