For those that have very low income there is the public option. The rest i believe is done on a wage. Scale. He didn't want it this way, but compromises as in romney in mass. Did it that way.
September 14, 2010 at 1:10pm
There is no public option in Obamacare. The minimum policy requirements eliminate the low cost catastrophic policies that are available today making premiums much higher for everyone.

Just a FYI, Fox news held a four hour poll this morning (9-14-10)to see if Americans wanted Congress to appeal the Health Care Law. It set a new record for percentage on any poll they have ever given.

With just a few minutes to go in the poll 97% of those who responded were in agreement they wanted Congress to repeal the law.

Although he is too stubborn and to out of touch to understand plain English, that should tell Obama that no one but him and Nancy Pelosi wanted the moronic law anyway.

Keep drinking the kool-aid and vote Democratic.

Guess some of the Democrats in Congress had taken the time to read the Obamacare Bill instead of just blindly voting for it. Thanks a lot Bart Gordon!

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/12/health/policy/12health.html

"Many Democrats have joined Republicans in pushing for the repeal of a tax provision in the new health care law that imposes a huge information-reporting burden on small businesses. "

what we need is jobs , if we had jobs we could have insurance
September 15, 2010 at 9:00am
doolittle, what else do you expect from a Fox poll, 100%? What did the Party of No offer?
September 15, 2010 at 9:35am
Interesting test of the power of the government to use the commerce clause of the Constitution to require insurance for all. With 20 states and others wanting to nullify the healthcare law and the court (Reagan appointed judge) ruling that the case can go forward, this will no doubt wind up in the Supreme Court.
One might remember the SC has not always been correct in its rulings and with the conservative make up of the court, it will probably rule the Constitution does not give that power to the federal government.
There is hardly a hosptal in the US that would not argue something needs to be done about the costs associated with ER walkins who have no insurance--this will only increase. All of us pay for that cost now in our insurance premiums, add in the need to provide coverage for those with pre-existing health problems who are denied insurance along with the need to cover young adults to the age of 26, this law is a good law for the us to have.
That is really, really amazing news about the FOX viewers--just like lemmings. Did someone expect anything else?

Well I could have watched ObamaCNBC or any of the other liberal Democratic news organizations and listened to their poll on how great Obama is for the country, but I decided to listen to a news organization that understands what the majority of working class, taxpaying Americans truly want.

And I ddin't really expect anything less than what I saw on Fox. I was simply pointing out the poll results. And by the way it was a poll. People responded. Fox didn't just make up the results, the results came from the people who responded to the poll.

You can believe what you want, but the majority of the American people do not want the law that was passed. I personally am not against Health Care reform, but I am against a law that requires me to buy it or face a penalty.

Using this same theory that the government can run your life, what will stop the Democrats and Obama from passing a law that requires everyone to do 30 minutes of exersize each day to help curb obesity and lower health costs? Or limit the number of high fructose corn syrup cola drinks to 1 a day to help lower the risks of diabetes?

The more you have government running your private life, the more it becomes a monarchy and not a republic.

Keep drinking the kool-aid and vote democratic!
September 15, 2010 at 11:26am
Tell all this to John boehner and the rest of them that from day one said they were out to make him fail.,. And as i said you don't here complaints about romney when he did this in mass. Wonder y? Could it be they wont talk about it? I wouldn't listen to fox news if you paid me. All actors

I am not following your argument yisagirl. If you are talking about someone trying to make Obama fail from day one, then your argument doesn't hold much water.

The Democrats have control of both the House and the Senate. They have had control for over FOUR years. You have a Democratic President and they have the power to stop a Republican fillibuster if they truly stick together.

The only reason Obama is failing is because the American people don't want what he is selling.

You can disregard Fox News or you can listen to the liberal CNBC to hear all of the non-sense they lie about. Either way is your choice. But, what you can't deny and what you can't dimiss is the will of the American people.

There is a reason why the Democrat's will lose control of the House and lose enough seats in the Senate to level the playing field in November.

It is not because of a Republican Party conspiracy, it is because the American people have decided enough is enough of the Obama / Democratic Party ignorance and decide to take back our country.
September 16, 2010 at 8:56am
Take back our country seems to be the mantra of the Tea Party stalwarts. But what will they take it back too?
When the "take backers" can only express themselves with words like "moronic", "idiot" and "ignorance" you wonder about the wisdom of turning over our nation to people who can only spew out meaningless words like these.
We have anywhere from 35 to 45 million people without insurance who do become ill and will be treated by our medical community--we are assuming that cost now--all of us who have insurance are helping pay that bill now.
Those opposed to mandatory coverage can only denigrate a law that starts to control this aspect of soaring healthcare cost. What do the opponents suggest--nothing but "moronic", "idiot" and "ignorance."
One wonders!

September 16, 2010 at 9:48am
Yes it does make "one wonder" why anyone would vote Democratic. Especially since the "ignorant" and "moronic" laws they rush to pass, despite the will of the American people, are the very laws that have us in this "idiotic" mess to begin with.

I find it very amusing that people believe that the Health Care Law will "even" things out so everyone has an equal part in paying for rising health care in America.

Health care reform is needed. I would 100% agree with that. However, I don't agree with the idea the government has the right to make me buy it or face a penalty. That is not their job to make those decisions for you or me.

And as far as the "ideas" the opponents suggest, it is obvious you have no idea what has been proposed.

Instead of forcing people to pay for something or face a penalty, why not start with the top two things wrong with health care today.

1. Insurance companies
2. Phamacutical companies.

Had the Democrats and Obama started there, they wouldn't be defending themselves today about a "moronic" law. Instead, they decided to start with the idea of taxing you, me and businesses to pay for an idea that was doomed from the beginning.

You can argue till the moon turns blue and you cannot deny the fact that the overwhelming majority of the American people did not want the Health Care Law passed and that is why you and your party will fail in November.

September 16, 2010 at 10:29am
Everyone has the freedom to believe what they want. And again direct all questions to john boehner and romney. ..... mayb u should ask the people of massachusettes how they like having to pay a penalty for not having insurance. I stand firm and you obliously do on your opinion. The people voted him in and bush created the mess. Rep are for the rich so i take it you have lots of money. Corporations own the presidents people have the choice to become sovereign. If they so desire. Not me

I have said enough on the subject. It is obvious the all of you who believe in the Democratic party and their belief that spend more than you have coming in and tax until you drop will never understand reality.

And I am not sure how you get Bush created the Health Care mess considering it was Obama and your party who created the law last year.

I refer all of you to look up at the top of this page and take a close look at the poll results.

You are seeing the results from the people of Cannon County. A group of people who have long held the Democratic party on a pedestal and voted Democratic for years and years and years.

So what should it tell you when a group of people who have been Democrats all of their lives, their parents and grand-parents have been Democrats all of their lives are against what the Democratic President and Congress have forced them to take?

Are you all that blind that you can't see the people in your own party don't want what is being shoved down your throats?

By the way Romney's first name is Mitt. And he is a joke. Mass is the most liberal, left-wing, Democratically controlled state in the union. Why on earth would we ever want to model anything that state does?
September 16, 2010 at 12:41pm
In reply to rommney,... just ask'n since he fines people without insurance. That's all. Lol

As a registered democrat who does not vote party lines and considers myself independent, I can address what is one of our current problems: foolish people who believe everything their party throws at them. I will assure you one thing, one side is not totally right and the other completely wrong.

It is the politicians (the political machine) and their yellow dog FOLLOWERS that keep us in limbo and moving backwards.

They dont know the answers any more than we do and only history will tell.

I do know our old system provides the best health care in the world, seeks cures and treats all with no regard to cost. Sweet thought but doesn't take rocket scientist to tell this wont fly long. So for sure the answer is NOT to do nothing and I hope we are not foolish enough to think the answer is Washington can fix it.

September 16, 2010 at 1:28pm
yisagirl1--I learned long ago, one does not match wits with one so unarmed. When the epee can only thrust with moron, idiot and ignorance, it makes no sense to reason with such.

I love it dailyreader when people like yourself believe that using words like "epee" in reference to other people's arguments make you sound like you are so intelligent and above the common folk.

It is my opinion that people like yourself who try to use words that most people wouldn't understand in order to promote your own arrogance typically just makes themselves look obtuse and injudicious.

Personally, I just think your "epee", like all other Democrats, bends to far to the left for the American people to take any longer.
September 17, 2010 at 6:46am
If you watched the evening news yesterday you saw where the lastest estimate (derived from the census) of uninsured Americans is said to be 50 million.
One in six who will offer themselves up to the ERs across the nation for tratment. Men, women and children with no access to a local family doctor who will treat the early symptoms, forstalling the need for ER treatment.
THe enormous cost being faced by the medical community makes it imperative we take steps to address this issue. The humanitarian aspect of human nature demands it.The Affordable Health Care Act is a step in that direction--
How many of the 134 who voted no have no insurance?
September 17, 2010 at 10:19am
Re:daily reader: so true it is and anyone can read the health care bill right on the internet. People are afraid of change, lime my grandmother was... and turned out change was all for the better. Dailyreader:

If you read the Wall Street Journal this morning you would know that the number of people who are not paying income taxes has risen from 39% to 45% during the past five years,(Four of which has been under a Democratically controlled Congress).

You would also know that 13% of Americans are paying no taxes at all (neither Income Tax or Social Security taxes).

You would also know that the deficit was $1.26 TRILLION dollars during the first 11 months of the fiscal year.

You would also know that 41.3 million people were on food stamps as of June 2010.

All of that might (and I say might) help you understand that this country has turned into a land where everyone feels entitled to a free ride.

It might (and I say might) help you understand why the 134 people you reference above have decided that they are fed up with the idea that they are the only ones who have to pay for the other 55% of the people who pay nothing and they are tired of it.

It might (and I say might) help you understand why they don't believe in your party's ideals and mantra that we spend into oblivion and tax until we die the very people we say we represent.

I don't think there is a Republican or Democrat in this country that would say that health care reform is not needed. I believe 100% it does. However, I have said before and I will say it again. We don't need what your party has crammed down our throats.

I don't understand why you or any other Democrat believes that taxing and penalizing people who don't have insurance is a cure for the Health Care problem we face in America.

When the idea of entitlement is changed and people are forced to accept the idea that if you don't work, you don't eat, then and only then can we begin to fix the problems like health care.

Of the 134 people you referenced above, I bet 95% or better are part of the 45% of Americans who pay for the other 55%'s entitlements.

September 17, 2010 at 11:34am
I think rommney can answer that question. PRESIDENT OBAMA wanted the public option as you know and to get what is a major step he had to compromise and bush left us in such a mess where are the jobs? Even college grads can't find work, yes. I agree too many people are lazy and want to live off the gov. And that needs to change when more jobs are available,. Or they could have to do community service in order to get their tenn care fold stamps etc and if they don't then like you said they don't eat. Seems they know how to undermine the system... so what penalty do you think they should have?

September 17, 2010 at 12:21pm
ysagirl you are very hard to follow with your arguments because you flow from one question into a response to another.

You keep bashing Bush for all of these problems and you just don't seem to understand that the DEMOCRATS have had control of both the House and the Senate for the last FOUR years.

As President, neither Bush nor Obama have control over the law making ability of Congress with the exception of the power of Veto.

If you want to place blame for the mess we are in start looking at the party you vote for.

The entire bill CAUSES more problems than it fixes.

Do you realize that insurance companies are now going to stop offering child only policies because of this law. Parents who typically cannot afford insurance buy those policies just to make sure their children are covered. Now because of the new health care law, the insurance companies will not offer that anymore.

Here is another fact the bill you support causes:
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act substantially alters Medicare Advantage and, as a consequence, reduces the access of senior citizens and the disabled to quality health care by restricting and worsening the health care plan options available to them. Lower-income beneficiaries, Hispanics, and African–Americans will bear a disproportionate share of the act’s Medicare Advantage payment reductions. Those reductions will also indirectly impose higher Medicaid costs on state and federal governments and lead to increased spending on prescription drugs by shifting costs to Medicare Part D.

Published on September 14, 2010 by Robert A. Book, Ph.D. and James C. Capretta

Your party, your President and people like you who are uneducated on the subject just simply don't understand that this law doesn't work, it causes more problems and the people don't want it.

And the list goes on and on!

Robert A. Book, Ph.D. and James C. Capretta

What the writer did not point out when these names were mentioned is that the Heritage Organization funded the article. This is information from a right wing , far right conservative group –the article is part of the fear mongering process being used constantly to influence senior citizens and , in this case, protect the income of insurance companies, who were raking in billions from MA programs.
To help finance health reform, Congress cut $136 billion over 10 years from the program, in which private insurers provide Medicare health plans for seniors. The private plans, which are paid a flat fee from the government for each enrollee were a likely target: They cost the government much more per beneficiary, on average, than does traditional Medicare, according to Medicare’s advisory commission.
As for the notion that seniors who have Medicare Advantage save money by paying less out-of-pocket, this might be true for the average, healthy beneficiary, but if you look closely, you will find that many plans cut back on benefits that sicker seniors desperately need. For example, the GAO report notes that “19 percent of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries [are] in plans that projected higher cost-sharing for home health services, and 16 percent of beneficiaries [are] in plans that projected higher cost-sharing for inpatient services," meaning that a decent chunk of MA enrollees are actually going to see higher out-of-pocket costs and co-pays than they would under traditional Medicare.
Moral of this story–don’t get your education solely from FOX and other right wing organizations.

bolo: I simply base my arguments on fact and not speculation.

Cannon County has voted Republican in the last three Presidential elections to include Bush and Obama. That includes the election in 2000 when the favorite son Al Gore was running. To me, that confirms what I have been saying that in a county such as ours that is heavily Democratic, the people just aren't buying what the Democrats are trying to sell.

And I am not mad at you or any other person who votes for a Democrat. It is your right to vote for who you want. I respect that 100%. That is one of the main principals our country was founded on.

And for the record, I don't think the Republican party is God's gift to America like most Republicans do. I think there are some terrible Republican ideas, there are some terrible people in the party and some terrible laws made by Republicans. I don't have the blinders on so much that I can't see reality.

And, I don't dislike all Democrats. My mother was a Democrat who said the only way she would ever vote Republican would be if I ran for office. And I think she would have had to think about that. Simply because she was like all other Democrats. Blindly voting for a party depsite the obvious problems they cause.

Lastly, I am not sure where you get that 30% to 40% of Tennesseans or Cannon Countians do not have family past two generations. I would argue that is an extremely high percentage, especially in this county.

My family is six generations old just by my own recollection and that is without any investigation. I would dare say that most people in Cannon County can say the same.

I love a good debate when the reader can't even get their facts straight before they present a rebuttal.

dailyreader if you were looking closely, the facts I got from Robert A. Book, Ph.D. and James C. Capretta were from the WALL STREET JOURNAL and not Fox news as you would have everyone to believe.

And I at least quote my sources, unlike you who simply tries to envoke one paragraph you researched off of the internet from the GAO (which stands for Government Accountabilty Office).

And you try to smoke screen your "supposed facts" around the idea that the Federal Government cut $136 billion dollars to support a program that doesn't work.

You completely disregard the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) reports that state the following about the Health Care Law:

1. It decreases the level of funding for Medicare, largely by cutting Medicare
Advantage and reducing payments to providers.
2. It increases the overall level of taxation by increasing and expanding the
Medicare payroll tax for high earners, imposing fees on the health care industry,
establishing a tax on high-cost insurance, and making other changes.

The moral of this story is not to disregard Fox news. The moral of this story is people are buying what you, Obama and the Democrats are trying to sell.

The moral of this story is everyone should educate themselves.

Have you ever wondered why there are no liberal, left-winged talk shows on either T.V. or radio? The reason is no one listens to them and the ratings for either one are in the basement.

To quote Abraham Lincoln: "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

Keep drinking the kool-aid and vote Democratic.
September 19, 2010 at 6:09am
rd77: Robert A. Book, Ph.D., is a Fellow at The Heritage Foundation Senior Research.
Heritage Foundation is a right wing organization (please note, I said FOX and other right wing organizations)--a number of articles have been written by these two, all denouncing the Affordable Health Care Act. Some appreared in the WSJ.
Humana and a number of other insurance companies have reaped hugh profits from the MA programs offered by them. One reason healthcare costs were soaring and out of control.
rd77 mentions "1. It decreases the level of funding for Medicare, largely by cutting Medicare
Advantage and reducing payments to providers. (Note Humana is a provider)
2. It increases the overall level of taxation by increasing and expanding the
Medicare payroll tax for high earners, imposing fees on the health care industry,
establishing a tax on high-cost insurance, and making other changes."
Exactly what should happens--if Medicare is to survive.
I am sure those high earners and those extremely profitable insurance companies are crying in their beer right now.
And rd77, I could have paraphrased the GOA report but I found I was using more than one or two syllable words and I sure didn't want to create a problem for you again.

You can't win this this argument dailyreader because your dog just won't hunt. And unlike you I do not need to express myself in a way that I think will make me look so "above" everyone and more knowledgeable like you do, because I know I know more and understand more about this law than anything you can attempt to say. Simply because I chose to educate myself instead of listening to the babble that you and the other bone-headed Democrats are trying to snowball the American people into believeing.

I have read most (not all) of the Health Care Act, I have read your precious GAO reports that you love to quote and I have read the CBO reports as well.

You keep on dreaming that this law will cure all of Medicare woes even though that is contrary to the CBO report.

You keep dreaming that you will have the majority in the House and the Senate come November.

You keep dreaming Obama will get re-elected.

You keep dreaming that the pharmacutical companies and the insurance companies won't pass along any higher costs given to them back on to the common folk who need the money the most because of this law.

You keep on dreaming and believing that "entitlement" to health care, food stamps, welfare, unemployment benefits, etc. is what all Americans should have.

You keep dreaming and never realize that people should work for a living and be a accountable for their own actions and provide for their family and become productive citizens of our country.

You keep on dreaming and believe the U.S. government should provide everyone with everything they need no matter what the cost.

You keep dinking the kool-aid and vote Democratic.

And when you wake up from all of your dreams, I will be there. Me and all of the other common folks who decided that you can pretend to be astute and perspicacious all you want, but we all really know you have nothing more than a dictionary and a thesaurus to help you out with the really big words you spout off while shoveling your manure.
