Walker's hat trick propels Lionettes to win

Livia Walker supplied a hat trick and the Cannon County defense was stingy from the outset as the Lionettes roared past Jackson County, 4-1, in Gainsboro Tuesday (Aug. 27).

Walker scored three goals against Jackson County to raise her total to five in two matches. The hat trick against Jackson County was the first of her career.

“My teammates did a good job of passing me the ball in spots were I had scoring opportunities, and I was fortunate enough to finish shots,” Walker said. “It felt good to get the win.”

Erin McReynolds assisted Walker’s first goal to give the Lionettes’ a 1-0 lead in the first half. Molly Williams added a sweet pass and Walker finished to provide a 2-0 cushion at the half.

Walker added her third goal - an impressive kick from 30 yards out. Macy Williams got into the scoring act later in the second half to push the score to 4-0.

Jackson County avoided a shutout in the final four minutes but the Cannon County defense was tight throughout and controlled most of the match. Keeper Raquel Novoa finished with six saves. The Lionettes’ defense allowed just 10 shots.

Jylian Jones was strong at center mid and Bailey Sims was the stopper in a strong defensive effort. They were assisted by defenders Jessica Elmy and Kallie McCrary. 

A strong effort from midfielders Molly Williams and Kristen McReynolds aided the cause.

Kristen McReynolds demonstrated gritty defensive toughness when she went to head a ball and was head-butted and left with a bloody nose only to return and make her prese nce felt later in the match. She narrowly missed a header for a goal off a corner kick from Walker.

Sister Erin McReynolds turned in a solid game at left forward. She moved the ball upfield and had multiple spot passes to ignite an explosive Cannon County offense.
