Get on Target with 4-H: In response to overwhelming demand, Cannon County will be offering (for the first time in recent history) an archery workshop. The workshop will be held Tuesday and Thursday, December 4th and 6th, at the Cannon County Expo Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The first of the two nights will focus on targeting, safety, and letting the youth begin shooting. The second session will consist more of a practice session to allow youth to become more familiar with archery.
The hope of the workshop is to provide a "kicking off" point for an Archery group here in the county, if you are interested in becoming a coach or volunteer, please let us know at the Extension Office, and we will get the ball rolling.
Cost for the workshop is $20.00, to sign up, please come by the Extension Office and register by Thursday, November 29th.
County Public Speaking Contest: The response to the local (or classroom) 4-H Public Speaking contest during the November 4-H club meetings has been wonderful. Our County Public Speaking Contest has been scheduled for Thursday, December 13th at Woodbury Grammar School with registration beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the contest beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please take advantage of this opportunity to improve your public speaking ability. All 4-Hers who participated in the local (or classroom) contest are invited to attend and all participants will receive an award.
Homeschool 4-H: The Cannon County 4-H program prides itself on providing quality educational programs and activities for all Cannon County youth. Currently, we are on the lookout for any youth that may be homeschooled, so they too can share in the great program that is 4-H. If you are currently homeschooled, but would like to participate in 4-H; please give the Extension Office a call at 563-2554 and we will let you know of the next meeting and any other upcoming activities.
4-H Camp: Although our thoughts are of the upcoming Holiday Season, it is never too late to begin making those summer plans. Our dates for the 2013 4-H camping season have been released: Junior 4-H camp, which is for our 4th through 6th graders, will be held June 17th through 21st, and our Junior High 4-H camp, which is for our 7th and 8th graders, will be held May 27th through 31st. Both camps will be held at the Clyde York 4-H Center. For more information please visit: clydeyork4hcenter.org.
State 4-H Congress: For our 9th and 10th graders, it is time to think about State 4-H Congress. State 4-H Congress is a wonderful opportunity where delegates take the role of our elected officials as they learn all about how laws are made and passed here in Tennessee. 4-H Congress will be held March 24-27 at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown for more information please go to: utextension.utk.edu/4H.
