"A Walk through the Park,"the upcoming dance recital presented by Cannon Arts Dance Studio, is a journey through the history of McMinnville's Park Theater . Based on interviews with Mayor Jimmy Haley and other local residents, studio owner Lori Christensen has crafted a narrative full of local history and color.
"Last year we performed our recital at the Park Theater and were captivated by the historical significance of the theater," Ms. Christensen observed. "Our ballerinas were treading the same stairways that segregated theater goers back in the day. It gave me the idea to base this year's recital on the historical significance of the theater including, movies events, and personalities that formed the Park theater timeline, dating back to 1939."
Many movies that were popular during the Park Theater's heydey will be represented by dance numbers from Star Wars, ET, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca, and a host of others. Freedom, a nod to the civil rights movement, and Los Machetes, performed by California Club Jr., will represent the diversity of our local counties. If you like ballet, tap, jazz, hip- hop, lyrical or clogging, you are surely going to find a number that appeals to you.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 13 @ 7PM. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.tututix.com/cannonartsdance.. Limited tickets may be available at the door.
