This is announcing my candidacy for the office of Cannon County Clerk on August 2, 2018.

I have lived in Cannon County my entire life, and worked within sight of the courthouse all of my working life. Living in another place has never entered my mind. My roots run deep in Cannon County. My parents are Jane McCrary Jennings, and the late Robert E. (Bob) Jennings. My grandparents were Selmer and Lena Jennings who founded Jennings Motors (the local Ford dealership), and L. D. "Dug" and Vida Barton McCrary.

I grew up working in our family business, and worked in every aspect of that business at some point until it was closed in 2009. Cannon County was good to Jennings Motors, and we hope in our 87 years in business that we helped to make Cannon County a better place to live.

My education took place in Cannon County schools, graduating from Woodbury Central High in 1974. I earned a degree in business administration at MTSU in 1978. I have had many years of experience in business, with the last 9 years as budget director for Cannon County Schools, accounting for a 15 million dollar budget. I have been an active member of First Baptist Church for 48 years.

I believe I am qualified to make a contribution to the betterment of Cannon County as your county clerk. I'm ready to work hard, running the clerk's office with honesty, integrity, transparency, and efficiency. The Clerk's office is a very important one, with many duties.

Those duties include keeping minutes of county commission meetings, and selling vehicle licenses, issuing beer permits, marriage licenses, business licenses, and notary public at large commissions. I hope to use my abilities to make it the best clerk's office in Tennessee.

My 30+ years in the automobile business has allowed me to learn a lot about TN vehicle title laws. Keeping accessible and accurate records of the county commission is very important, and I hope to use technology to make records of the clerk's office more accessible. Adding a driver's license kiosk will be a high priority of mine, where Cannon County residents may come and renew their licenses. I also plan to convert the office to a salary based system from a fee based system, where the proceeds of the office are turned over to the trustee. I have visited clerk's offices in other counties, and plan to find the most efficient way to run the office.

I would like to get to every house and business in Cannon County during my campaign, but realize that is impossible. I am asking for your vote on August 2. I promise to run the office as honestly and efficiently as possible, offering the highest level of service that that is possible within our means.
So I ask you to please mark your calendar for August 2, 2018 and vote for me, Douglas Jennings as your county clerk.
