A fatal car crash on Hwy 53 near 1588 Jim Cummings Highway claimed the lives of two Auburntown men Tuesday morning. According to THP preliminary reports, 21 year old Johnathan Holland and 21 year old Johnny Kennedy both died after a 2004 Mazda in which Holland was driving southbound crossed the center line and went into the northbound lanes of travel striking a 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by Kendra Maynard of Readyville head on. This caused Maynard to drive off the right shoulder of the roadway. Maynard suffered broken ribs in the accident. A second passenger in the Mazda, 19 year old Brady Anderson of Cornelia Georgia, was injured in the accident but is expected to recuperate. Holland, Anderson and Maynard were all wearing seatbelts. The preliminary report stated that seat belts would not have made a difference in the outcome. Next of kin has been notified and the accident is still under investigation.
