Mark Pody, right, fills out paperwork to run for the 17th District State Senate seat formerly held by Mae Beavers as Cannon County Administrator of Elections Matt Tepley looks on Monday morning.

State House Rep. Mark Pody visited Cannon County on Monday. He served as the guest speaker for the annual National Patriot Day Ceremony presented by American Legion Hilton Stone Post 279 which was held at Cannon County High School. Pody also visited the Cannon County Election Office and Administrator of Elections Matt Tepley to file paperwork to run in the a primary and special elections to be held on Nov. 7 and Dec. 19, respectively, to fill the District 17 State Senate seat which was recently vacated by Mae Beavers, who is running for governor. Pody had previously announced he would not be seeking reelection to the House in 2018. If he is elected to the Senate in December, he will resign as District 46 representative. Because there will be less than a year before the 2018 election if that happens, the Wilson County Commission will appoint someone to serve on the House for the remainder of Pody's term.
