Cannon County Constable Jim Gibbs recently completed National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Program.
This 24-hour, hands-on course teaches the skills necessary to detect impaired drivers with a high degree of accuracy. Additionally, it shows how to write an accurate report and instills confidence for testifying in court. This course is designed for sworn law enforcement officers who want to enhance their Driving While Impaired (DWI) detection skills.
Constables are elected at the district level and have law enforcement powers throughout the county. Jim Gibbs is serving his first term as constable for the 1st district, but brings to the office over 40 years of law enforcement experience. Jim has a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, was valedictorian of his police academy and is a certified trainer of firearms, chemical spray, baton, and Tasers. Jim was first certified as a Peace Officer Standards of Training Instructor in 1977.
Jim Completed the DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Program on his own time and also recently complete 40 hours of in-service law enforcement training which included a re-qualification with his firearms.
