A Cannon County couple has been charged with committing criminal offenses in separate incidents which occurred on the same day.
Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Gullett charged Bethany Hope Elrod with contempt of court (violation of bond conditions) the afternoon of June 1.
Deputy Gullett was dispatched to John Bragg Hwy. at Hollis Creek Rd. following a report of a male subject who was pulling a female by the arm.
Upon arrival the female subject was found walking down Hollis Creek Rd. She was identified as Bethany Elrod, who was out of jail on bond conditions for a domestic violence incident involving her husband, Courtne.
Deputy Gullett then located Courtne Elrod on Hollis Creek South and was advised by him that he and Bethany had run out of gas at a residence and that Bethany had gotten out of the vehicle and took off walking. Courtne stated he took off after her since she only had one shoe on.
Courtne stated once he made contact with Bethany they were on the side of John Bragg Hwy. and that she refused to go back with him.
Bethany was then placed into custody for violating bond conditions and transported to the Cannon County Jail. Once there, Bethany stated that Courtne and her were going through a divorce or were in the process of getting a divorce and that he had come to pick her up to take her to the doctor.
Bethany admitted knowing she wasn’t supposed to be around Courtne, but said he called her and said he would take her to see a doctor.
A few hours later, Woodbury Police Sgt. John House charged Bethany with violation of bond conditions after she was found sitting on Courtne’s lap during a traffic stop on Highway 53N.
Later the night of June 1, Courtne was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass. Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Perry was dispatched to 812 Johnson Hollow Road for a report of an unwanted guest. Upon arrival he spoke with Vickie Winfrey, who stated that Courtne came on to her property after having been told he was not welcome there. Courtne was also told by Deputy Tommy Barker on April 21 not to be on the property.
Bond for Bethany for both June 1 incidents was set at a total of $105,000. She has court appearances set for July 12 and 19. Courtne’s bond was set at $1,000 and his court date is July 12.
The address listed on the arrest warrants for the Elrods is 106 West Water St., Woodbury, but they were reportedly evicted from that residence at the end of May.
