Cannon County Director of Schools William F. Curtis has named Mr. Courtney Nichols to be the Principal of Cannon County High School. The position became available upon the retirement of Mr. Mike Jones, who has served as Principal for the past five years.
Curtis stated, "Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 26th, 2018, a Press Conference will be held at Cannon County High School announcing Mr. Courtney Nichols as Principal at Cannon County High School beginning on July 1st, 2018. Mr. Nichols is an outstanding and award-winning Vocational Agriculture teacher at Cannon County High School since 2004, and Career and Technical Education Director for Cannon County Schools since 2010. He is a forward thinking and innovative educator that will immediately impact Cannon County High School."
Mr. Nichols began his teaching career at Richland High School in Lynnville, Giles County, TN as an Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor in 1994. He returned to his roots at Cannon County High School in 2004 where he began teaching Greenhouse Management and Horticulture Sciences. Later on, Mr. Nichols was selected to be the Career and Technical Director for Cannon County Schools in 2010.
During his tenure as CTE Director, Mr. Nichols has helped to secure over $300,000 in grants to enhance the learning opportunities for our Cannon County students. These grant monies were used to build a livestock facility, update the Health Sciences Department and assist students with the cost associated with obtaining certifications for Early Post Secondary Opportunities (EPSOs). He also serves as the Middle Tennessee Career and Technical Directors Vice-President since 2015.
Cannon County High School had nine total applicants for the position. It was narrowed to the top three applicants and Director Curtis conducted extensive interviews with each applicant on Friday, June 22nd, 2018 at Cannon County High School.
Director Curtis stated the following, "I am very excited to announce Mr. Courtney Nichols as CCHS Principal. He is a proven veteran educator and is well respected across the Upper Cumberland and Middle Tennessee in his previous role as CTE Director for our school district. I am extremely appreciative of Mr. Nichols' willingness to be the leader of the team to achieve our mission at Cannon County High School to be E3 = 'Engaged in Educational Excellence!'"
