I miss the town Woodbury used to be, back when there were three grocery stores around the square and shops where you could buy anything you wanted without having to drive elsewhere. When you had to drive around to get a parking place and you could park between the courthouse and the store fronts "just to watch the traffic go by".
I miss going to the window at Vernie Burks poolroom and ordering a sandwich because women weren't allowed inside.
I miss riding Jesse Alexander's bus from the shirt factory uptown every day at lunch just so I could go to Webb's grocery store and have Pete and Roy make me a Bologna and Cheese Sandwich with shredded lettuce.
I miss being a parent of a Woodland School and Cannon County High School Student.
I miss the heated basketball games at both Woodland and Cannon County High School and the hundreds of miles I traveled going to away games and tournaments.
I miss the summers with softball games and traveling around with my son and daughter's teams.
I miss "the shirt factory" and all the friends made there. I miss seeing Harold Vinson there every day and his reply of "Finer than Frog Hair" when you ask him how he was.
I miss The Bank of Commerce! It was a sad day for Cannon County when it sold.
I miss all the people I loved who have gone on to a better place.
I know you can't go back, but it sure is nice to think about what once was ever now and then and thank God that I was able to enjoy every minute of it.
