With one of the largest ballots in recent years and over 8,000 registered voters in Cannon County, those who are interested in participating in the August 5 County General Election and State Primary may want to get a head start.
They can do so beginning this Friday (July 16) when early voting begins at the Cannon County Election Office at 301 West Main St., Woodbury.
“We encourage people to vote early because usually when they do it cuts down on the amount of time they have to stand in line and the time it takes to cast their vote,” Stanley Dobson, Cannon County Administrator of Elections, said.
A sample of the ballot people will see when they go to vote is printed on pages 20, 21 and and 22 of this week’s paper. The dates for early voting are July 16 through July 31.
Times are as follows: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon each day. Tuesday July 20th will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22nd will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 27th will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Thursday, July 29th will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Dobson said voting early could be especially beneficial to persons who are elderly or handicapped. “Voting early will give them more time, so they won’t have to feel they are being rushed like they might on election day,” he said.
Persons who vote, whether it is during early voting or on August 5, should bring their voter registration card, driver’s license or state-issued ID card with them when they go to their polling place to cast their ballot, Dobson said.
Anyone having questions about voting or the election can call the Election Commission Office at 563-5650. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
