Mr. Joe Y. Nichols, 84, of Woodbury died Dec. 8, 2010. He was born July 28, 1926 in Cannon County. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Noel Nichols, Sr. and Mattie Jane (Webb) Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Brandon) Nichols of Woodbury; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia & Charles Bowman of Bradyville, Susan & Darrell Turney of Woodbury; brother, William Noel "Nick" Nichols, Jr. of Woodbury; grandchildren, Christopher Bowman & Sara Bowman, Matthew, Luke, John Mark, Joshua & Rachel Turney.
He was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ and taught Bible Classes there. He graduated from Central High School in 1944 and was drafted into the U. S. Army during WWII. Where he served in the South Pacific. After returning from the service he graduated from David Lipscomb University. He also earned a law degree from the YMCA School of Law in 1963. He worked for General Motors as an insurance adjustor for 33 years. He enjoyed farming, being outdoors and being around people.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 from 2-8 PM at Smith Funeral Home. On Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 the visitation will be held at the Woodbury Church of Christ from 8-10 AM. Funeral services will follow in the Old Auditorium of the church. Charles Bowman & Darrell Turney will officiate. Interment will be in Cateston Cemetery.
