I want to acknowledge, with my sincere appreciation, the outpouring of community support for the continued operation of the Veteran Service Office (VSO). Your swift response to the funding shortfall to keep the VSO phone operational is enabling the continuance of communications for our local Veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
As a member of the County Commission, I am aware of the funding priorities of each of the Commissioners and the County Executive, the differences in those priorities, and the politics affecting the maintenance of VSO services.
As a Veteran, I believed the only thing I could do to resolve the elimination of VSO funding was to volunteer my time to maintain this capability in our community. I am thankful for all those who provided their generous donations. I want to thank the Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279 for taking on the mission of manning and maintaining the VSO over the long term and I would also like to recognize First Bank for willingly aiding Post 279 to collect the donations to support this effort. Hopefully, we will continue to provide a conduit for our community's Veterans for the years to come.
Sincerely,
Brent D. Bush
