Cannon County’s soccer team put up a strong first-half effort before falling to defending district champion Merrol-Hyde, 7-1, Thursday (Sept. 4).

The Lionettes (3-3, 0-2) trailed 3-1 at the half but faltered in the second half.

Livia Walker accounted for Cannon County’s only goal, raising her total to 13 for the season.

Keeper Jessica Elmy had her best performance of the season with 19 saves, including an impressive stop on a penalty kick late in the second half.

Senior Molly Williams moved to center-forward and played well in her new role. Williams is the team leader in assists and continued to be a strong passer and a key part of the team’s offensive approach.

Seniors Kendra Maynard and Kristen McReynolds played well at midfield, providing outlets for the defense and helping start offensive drives.

The Lionettes suffered a 4-0 setback against Cascade in a non-conference match Saturday (Sept. 6).
