Mrs. Marylin Joy Baker Lorance, 84, of Woodbury passed away peacefully in her home after an extended illness on Thursday September 26th, 2024. She was a native of Cannon County.

She is survived by her daughter Holly (Ira) Eads, granddaughter Hope (Terry) Parker, and brother Edward Baker of Florida, Nephews include Bruce Baker of Florida, Brad Baker of North Carolina, Marty Baker of Kentucky, and Lee, Marshall, and Chris Lorance. Nieces include Diane Baker and Candy Glover of Kentucky. Sister in Laws include Brenda and Pam Lorance, and Annette Seals. Brother in Laws include Albert (Virginia) Lorance and Randy (Shandra) Lorance.

Ms. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Lucy Baker, her husband, George Lorance, and siblings Martin Baker and Jewel Pitts.

Ms. Joy was a dutiful wife, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. When Joy was 4, she and her family moved to Kansas where she enjoyed riding horses and spending time with her siblings. Around the age of 13, Joy and her family moved back to Tennessee where she graduated from Cannon County High School. Joy was a Cannon County Lionette and assisting her team in taking third in the state basketball championship. From 1958-1965, she worked in accounting at the Sears Tower in Nashville. She also spent several years working at what is now known as First Bank prior to the birth of her daughter (Holly). Ms. Joy was a homemaker until she started as a secretary of Woodland School prior to finding her career in social work. Ms. Joy was a social worker with the Cannon County Health Department where she was named Public Health Worker of the Year for the state of Tennessee and retired after 20 years of service. She was also a long time member of Pleasant View Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time outside gardening as well as watching good movies.

Ms.Joy was a beautiful woman on the inside and out. She was a hard worker, always thought of others, and never met a stranger.

Private services will be held per the family's request.
