By CAROL GUNTER
We have a lovely Saturday morning up here on the mountain. Hope you've had your cup or cups of coffee and with the weather being so nice today have plans to get out and simply enjoy this day to the fullest that the Lord has given you. I was out yesterday pulling weeks and spray painting concrete pots and statues (getting more black paint on me than what I was trying to give a fresh coat of paint to).
On Monday I talked with Ruth/the boss and all is well with her and the family. Also on Monday, Beverly Hubler came by and visited with me for a while.
David Spears with Off Road Equipment Parts called yesterday morning from Knoxville. Aubrey got dozer parts there for many years and developed a really good friendship with David. Aubrey nicknamed him "The Tax Collector". He was just checking to see how Aubrey's girl was getting along. Glad he called and told him about how the Lord impressed on me to start writing the column in the paper and how this has helped me immensely about Aubrey. Never thought I could write about Aubrey, but that just shows you how good and great the Lord is doesn't it?
Since Clyde is in those talks with the little green guys, I told him to be very careful and do nothing to tick them off as the "Gunter Reunion" will be going on the last day of august and we do not need an uprising on our hands. He says he understands. I just pray he does as this is a very important yearly event that will be going on at Aubrey's shop. I asked him what he would do if one of the green men showed up while he and the others were playing a song and he said I guess we would stop, put our instruments down and get out of dodge if possible. My response to him was it was just according to the timing of the green guy's arrival. We Gunters love to eat and if he comes before we eat, I don't think his appearance will stop us from devouring the delicious food in front of us. On the other hand, if we have already eaten, then he shows up - it will probably be Katie-bar-the-door and a stampede will be in full force. Yours truly included in getting out of there!
Speaking of Aubrey's shop, years ago this cat showed up and was attacking every dog around here and running them off. I think Aubrey was calling it his "attack cat" as it certainly didn't like dogs. At the shop, Aaron had one of his dozers in there and he called it "Big Thea" after his wife to be. That cat got up on the dozer track when it spotted a blue healer coming into the shop and as the dog went by that cat jumped on its back and the dog started howling as the cat had its claws in him and was running for his life. It so happened that this mechanic was working under a dozer at that time when the dog went under that dozer and over him with the cat right behind him and they both went out the other end of the shop with that dog still howling as they went out of hearing distance. The mechanic all shook up and startled by what had just happened managed to get out from under that dozer and asking Aubrey what kind of cat was that anyway. I'm sure Aubrey was laughing his head off as all the others there were and just told him that was his attack cat. I was told this story by Aubrey but didn't find out whose dog it was but I hope it got back to its owner, if it lived through the attack.
If you have any news for the column, just give me a call at (615) 563-4429. Have a great day!
May God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self - spirit, soul, and body - be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes.
