Familiar theme this Thursday afternoon of thunderstorms rumbling through and dumping plenty of rain on us. We need the rain to let up now as we've already had four inches of rain since Sunday night. Still more rain chances for us over the weekend and through Wednesday of next week the weather people are telling us. Since no one can mow with all these wet conditions and that grass you can almost heart getting taller, when we do get back to mowing, it will be more like cutting hay. We did have another inch of rain on Friday night, Winds were pretty brisk and we had hail, too. All total of over five inches or rainfall for the week. Whew, enough of this kind of weather as everyone needs a breather now.
Trouble in paradise on some alarming news that has not been confirmed and some people are very skeptical about it, but I've just been told of a bear at a house on Vanhooser Road the other night. Evidently the bear wanted in the couple's house as he was clawing at their door. The law was called but the bear took off as they arrived. The bear escaped in a soybean field, according to the officers. Evidently there was a garbage can that was not bothered by the door. Possibly the people inside were cooking steaks and other goodies that the bear probably smelled (as I've been told by one source) bears can smell food a mile away. What bear wouldn't pass up a garbage can with left overs and scrapes to get to some mouth watering steaks? If I was a bear and didn't have a key to the door, I would certainly be clawing at it. This is too close for comfort for me as I don't live that far away and I have read bears can cover a lot of ground in any of the four directions they would want to travel. There have been quiet a lot of sightings of bears here lately from McMinnville to Smithville and now at Short Mountain. "Aubrey" told me that there were bears and mountain lions upon the mountain behind us. Fay is worried a bear might come down off that mountain and get me to have some goo eating at supper time. (I think I would probably be a few good meals for any bear.) Not just at one sit down meal. You would think I had enough problems dealing with the "little green men" the cow, and that rabbit but now this. What should a girl do? Yep, you're thinking what I'm thinking Bobby and Clyde could track down this menacing predator to our society and relocate it somewhere else way, way, far away from my locality. You know there's got to be more than one of them bears as the ole saying goes "where there's one there's another". Don't have a clue as to how good Bobby and Clyde are being trackers. They probably don't have a clue either as I don't think they've done this before. Took out of my pocket the business card they gave me and it reads they can do just about anything on the odd days of any given month as long as it is nothing dangerous. I figure if they can stay their distance from a bear more power to them as they wouldn't get hurt that way. They could tranquilize him and put him in that devil's hole with the little aliens. That could then be their dinner and my problem would be solved. I would only hope he wouldn't wake up before they started carving.
