Lazy, hazy days of summer for sure now. Afternoons in the nineties can be almost unbearable being outside so you've got to just stay in where it's cool and get out later in the day to get work done. It is still a beautiful time of the year though. The on and off rain we've been having really makes our yards look good. Kelly Cox the weather person on Channel 5 said her grass was 'out of control' and that every time rain was predicted she got it at her house. I had to laugh because I definitely knew what she was talking about as I can hardly stay ahead of our grass as it has it seems a mind of its own.
That bubble gum I served up to those moles as a last meal worked beautifully just like last year. If you've got moles, I suggest trying the bubble gum as it certainly has done the trick for me in getting the moles gone for two years now.
Did you get the opportunity to vote last Thursday? Hope you exercised that right we still have in this country. Was working outside as usual and looked at my hone and it was a little after 5:00 o'clock. Get myself in go-go gear to get up to the school and do my patriotic duty to vote. It felt good to do that and participate in the election process. Everyone so cordial as they always are when you arrive on the scene. (Miss) Anita Arnold (I'm used to calling her that so it's hard to break the habit) and Connie Cantrell so helpful with the paperwork before you vote. Does anyone else dread showing their driver license picture to verify that you are who you say you are like I do? At least you can have a laugh or two as I do believe a person it seems gets their picture taken way too quickly by the person doing this. I have wondered if it's planned this way. I'm never ready and the photo ID proves that without questions.
Burley Bogle doing well when I was at Short Mountain Market the other day. Debby and Ralph also okay.
Nineteenth "Gunter Reunion" is now just a few weeks away. It will be on Sunday September 4th at "Aubrey's" shop. Clyde Nokes and his Bluegrass Band will be providing the entertainment that day and that will be quite a treat. This reunion is for family and friends of the Gunter family so come on out, bring a favorite dish you've whipped up and join us in this celebration that is now a tradition that our "Aubrey" started back in 1997. You'll not only be honoring us with your presence but Aubrey as well. He loved the reunion and looked so forward to being with the people he loved.
I guess I'm in hot water with all the garden spiders (you know the ones that come around toward fall) that have a yellow body with black markings that get really big and are very beautiful spiders as spiders go. The other day one of those garden spiders that I always name "George" was attached to my front storm door and to my stand with artificial flowers in it. Well, I thought I've got to relocate him. Got the fly swatter out of the kitchen to move him gently toward the azalea bush and, of course, away from he as he was too close for comfort. A van pulled up in our driveway and a man from the flower shop was asking about a certain address as he was coming down the sidewalk. About that time George jumped or fell off the fly swatter and was scurrying as fast as he could be get off the porch and before I knew it (because I'm in the habit of squashing spiders) you already guessed I swatted and killed George. Splat and he was history in just a mere second or two. Don't know if he had a family or not. I hope there were no cell phones from any other spiders taking a video of what just happened and it's on facebook. Bad for the guy from the flower shop looking for a road I've never heard of but certainly far worse for the dearly departed George my first garden spider of the season.
The 'little green men' are back from their vacation to the Bahamas and promising they'll not bother a thing where the Gunter reunion is concerned. This is what Bobby and Clyde are saying. The reunion is still a few weeks away so we'll see if that statement 'can hold water'.
