Borderless Arts Tennessee has launched their Face Off Festival! The Face Off Festival, initially planned to take place at the Tennessee State Museum, has move to an online platform and can be found on the Borderless Arts website at borderlessartstn.org. This project combines the study of history with digital art techniques, while celebrating the state of Tennessee.
Under the direction of artist Dee Kimbrell, the Borderless Arts Tennessee participants have recreated famous oil portraits of eleven historic Tennesseans out of recycled materials. These participants additionally chose eleven current Tennesseans, each of whom has had an impact on this state and this organization.
The Borderless Arts Tennessee artists then instructed the participants how to digitally insert the faces of the current Tennesseans onto the oil portraits of the historic Tennesseans. The Face Off Festival showcases these portraits along with informative bios on each Tennessean honored.
In addition to the Face Off portraits, various participants from the Borderless Arts community received digital dance tutelage from Jennifer James.
Videos of their dances can be found on the Face Off Festival page on Borderless Arts Tennessee's website. The Face Off Festival also includes links to patriotic concerts performed by the Borderless Arts Young Soloists and additional patriotic and Tennessee focused artwork from the participants.
This project is supported with funding from the Community Foundation, an ABC Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Nashville Predators Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Mark and Niki Antonini.
