OBITUARY: Jerry L. Vance

Mr. Jerry L. Vance, 68, of Nashville passed away on July 22, 2017 after an extended illness with his family by his side. He was born in Woodbury, TN on September 27, 1948. His parents were the late Hoyte A. Vance and Radene Cummings Vance; also preceded by his brothers, Terry Vance and Jimmy Vance.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Basham Vance of Nashville; daughter, Lori (Chris) Cross of Nashville; grandchildren Jaxon and Lexi; sisters, Treva (Jeff) Burrus of Nashville and Deby (Craig) Farrar of Murfreesboro; uncle and aunts, Ray and Jean Nichols and Jewel Tarpley all of Woodbury; also by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Vance graduated Woodbury Central High School with the Class of 1966. Then he graduated from UT in Knoxville with a Bachelor's Degree in 1970. After which he pursued a Law Degree at the Nashville School of Law. He was a private practice attorney in Nashville for over 30 years. While in school he met his sweetheart and future wife, Linda. He had joined the U S Army and was expecting to be leaving for his duty station soon after she would graduate. They were eager to begin their married life. When she graduated on May 14, 1971 they planned their wedding on May 16^th at the Sunny Slope Church of Christ. Within six months he was sent overseas for service. After his enlistment, he and Linda continued their married life and were blessed with a daughter, Lori. They enjoyed being together as a family and we able to travel and go on cruises together. He and Linda were members of the Charlotte Heights Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, July 23, from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, at 10 am in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. David Dunn will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery and he will be laid to rest with Military Funeral Honors. In lieu of flowers donations are also requested to Short Mountain Bible Camp or Wounded Warriors.
