Celebrating its 15th anniversary the tour has grown to include 14 stops with 25 participating artists. Visitors can download a map detailing directions to each stop as they follow the bright yellow signs making their way through the countryside to explore the creative activities at each studio. Artists are demonstrating their craft mediums and offering handcrafted shopping opportunities at every stop on the tour.
The Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour had its beginnings 15 years ago when Louis and Christine Columbarini hatched a plan to bring together artists in the two counties of DeKalb and Cannon and invite the public to their studio for demonstrations, sales and a get to know you kind of experience.
From that first small handful of innovative artists of the early years, the tour has expanded from a two day event to include all three days of a long fall weekend.
At each stop on the studio tour visitors will find the most exquisitely crafted contemporary fine crafts that are among the finest in the nation. The list includes raku pottery, shaker boxes, hand blown glass, functional and sculptural ceramics, handmade artist's paper and books, reclaimed jewelry, custom designs in semi-precious stones and sterling silver jewelry, woven wearable's, custom designed handbags, stained glass, furniture, large scale pulp painted canvases, ethnic inspired dolls, original designs in paper, marbled paper and fabric, tradition face jugs and large scale one of a kind wood sculptures and original paintings.
