Read to be Ready focuses on architects

Cannon County's Read to be Ready Summer Camp enjoyed a second week focused on learning about architects through reading, writing, experimenting, and traveling. Books for the week included Iggy Peck, Architect, Listen, My Bridge is So Cool, and National Geographic Little Kids Big Book of Animals.

Students enjoyed visiting the Courthouse led by Norma Knox and Andrea Alexander, which included meeting Judge Susan Melton.

We stopped by Central Office to meet with Director of Schools, William Freddy Curtis.

Shan Williams, a book illustrator, was a special guest. She led the campers in creating illustrations as well as giving each camper an autographed how to draw book.

We also visited Rock Island to meet a park ranger, hike, and picnic. We attended story time at the Adams Memorial Library with the Nashville Zoo.

Lastly, Sarah Ferrell from the 4-H office talked to the campers about June Diary month and gave out chocolate milk and ice cream sandwiches.

Co-directors are Emily Hancock and Kathy Mullins. Teachers are Stacie Bryson, Joy Pope, Beth Todd, and Maria Vickers.
