It's the rivalry that gets both communities buzzing and it renews another chapter for this basketball season starting tonight. The Cannon County ball teams will travel to nearby Smithville to meet the Dekalb County Tigers teams.
The Lady Tigers have struggled this season due to some key injuries. Tuesday night however the Dekalb team squeaked out a victory against visiting White County winning by a point after Kadee Ferrell returned from being out. White County beat them by 30 in Sparta earlier this season. Dekalb is 1-2 in the District standings having lost to York and Livingston while notching a win against Watertown.
The Lionettes have won three in a row since starting 2020. They are also 1-2 in District 8-AA beating Watertown while dropping games to Macon County and York in Jamestown.
The Lions seemingly have bounced back since their three point loss to Warren County by getting a revenge win over Central Magnet of Murfreesboro Tuesday splitting the season series with the Tigers. Dekalb is 4-10 but one of those wins came at the expense of Livingston which is also their only win in District 8-AA at the moment.
It's Friday night so you want to get to Smithville early. We'll have the games broadcasted live on cannonsource.com and also through the Facebook Live feature on our Facebook site "Cannon Courier News and Events" Game time starts at 6:00
