Cannon County will conclude its spring football drills with a spring game at Schwartz Field Saturday.
Although the ‘game’ will take place to cap the initial spring under first-year head coach T.J. Daniel, there will be a twist.
For starters, the Lions will offer a free fundamentals camp and visit with all interested youth players beginning at 1:30 p.m. The session will last approximately 30-to-45 minutes before players start preparing for the spring game.
“We wanted to do something that allows our players to work with the younger players,” Daniel said. “The youth players enjoy that and it’s a good way to get our players involved.”
The spring game will be more of a controlled scrimmage, Daniel said.
Due to injuries and numbers Daniel said the Lions will go through parts of their practice for the fans to watch. They will follow with a series of plays with the offense going against the defense.
The Lions have more than 40 players on the roster this spring. All eighth-graders interested in playing football at Cannon County High School in the fall are encouraged to attend practices this week, Daniel said.
Practices begin daily at 4:30 p.m.
