GUESS WHAT ...!!! We may have to change our name from The Trading Post to the Scratching Post !! It seems that those who no longer want their kittens and cats have been dropping them all off at the Short Mountain Trading Post. Hey, I would rather have that happen, than to have them dumped somewhere dangerous.
We all love felines here at the Barn....and we will feed them and love them .... but wow...there is quite a few at this time !! They return the favor by keeping mice out of the place and moles out of the yard...so actually, it all works out !!
Boy, it has been hot hasn't it !! The barn is fairly cool....just gets a little on the SAUNA side up in the Loft !! I have lost ten pounds so far. I told the bank teller the other day that I had finally found a successful way of losing weight. She said: How's that ? I said: Work up in a barn for three days in a row at 95 degree weather and the pounds just melt off !! She laughed and said she would pass on that one !!
Speaking of weight watching: I heard the other day that if you watch your carbohydrate intake you will have better luck with your diet. The reason being is that when we eat carbs during the day...we do it to get energy with the sugar from them. But, that energy only lasts so long and we need to replenish that sugar...so we eat more carbs. We do need carbs in our diet....but we need to monitor when we eat them. It is suggested that if we eat most of them at night it coincides with bedtime and instead of needing more sugar to keep going...we fall asleep instead. Remember if you are on a diet....you need to take one day and go off that diet. Mentally and physically your body needs that short pause from a stringent diet. So, yes you can have that pizza, ice cream and cake. Also, drink a large glass of water before a meal....it fills you up and you don't eat as much. Exercise...jump rope...whatever...before you eat and it will speed up your metabolism and burn those calories as you eat . Well, give it a try and see if those suggestions help !!

It has been a big hit and folks are picking up some great deals. So, don't miss out on this sale and on the two upcoming events at the Post !!
We have new vendors and new booths setting up...so the Barn is always getting a facelift and being stocked with new items every week. Our open times are: Thursdays thru Saturdays from 10 to 5. C'mon in and have a good time !!
Uncle Festus was a little bit down this week. A good friend of his passed away. He was a construction worker in large office buildings for many years.
I asked him what happened and he said: Well, he looked up the elevator shaft to see if the car was coming down.....It Was....!!
Cousin Annie got news that her stepmother fell and never came to again. Her brother had the grave marker made up. Annie asked what he said on it and he said: Here lies the body of our Anna ...done to death by a banana . It wasn't the fruit that laid her low, but the skin of the thing that made her go....
Cousin Annie fainted.
I will never forget the marker that my father had made for his dad who was 102 years old when he left us. It read: Only the good die young. (ok, Dad, you will be alright in a little while....)
Well....life goes on...and it certainly is an interesting journey ! I hope you are all enjoying your summer....loving your family...helping your friends ....driving careful...making sure your pets have plenty of water (My Max loves ice cubes...)...smile and be happy !! Chat with you next week.
Hugs, Savannah
