Judge Susan Melton presided over Cannon County General Sessions Court on July 18. The results of some of the cases are listed below, The majority of the cases on the docket were rescheduled for a later date after the defendants requested court-appointed attorneys.
● Ronald Wayne Jernigan Jr. agreed to revocation on a charge of violation of probation and was ordered to serve 60 days in the Cannon County Jail. His probation was extended for a period of 34 months, 25 days. Jernigan also pleaded guilty to DUI third offense. He had been charged with that offense and with driving on a revoked license on July 15 by the Cannon County Sheriff's Office. In that case he was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and placed on probation for 7 months, 20 days. He was also ordered to serve 120 days in jail and was fined $1,100. In addition, his license was revoked for 6 years, Jernigan must also pay all court costs and fees, The DORL charge was dismissed,
● Nepoleon Bonapart Wainwright pleaded guilty to DUI third offense. He was ordered to serve 11 months, 29 days in the Cannon County Jail, fined $1,100, and his driver's licenses was revoked for six years. Wainwright also pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and was fined $250. He also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest. He received a six months jail sentence in that case, Additionally, Wainwright agreed to violation of probation. He was ordered to serve his original sentence of 11 months, 29 days and was given credit for time served between May 9 and July 18, His jail sentences will run concurrent.
● Bronson Barrett agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 45 days in jail and was given credit for four days served, His probation was extended for 10 months, 7 days,
● James Estill Brown had an assault charge against him dismissed. The alleged victim will be assessed the court costs.
● Stephen A. Brown pleaded guilty to theft up to $1,000. He received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and was placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was also assessed court costs and must pay restitution to the victim.
● Andrew Clay Dutton pleaded guilty to violation of the seat belt law and was fined $50. He had a charge of driving while license suspended dismissed upon payment of court costs after he demonstrated to the court he had obtained a current license.
● Von Arlen McKinney had a charge of driving while license revoked dismissed upon payment of court costs after demonstrating to the court he had obtained a current license.
● Andrew Michael Seymour pleaded guilty to public intoxication. He was fined $50 and assessed court costs.
● Lytle Caster Trout III pleaded guilty to simple possession of marijuana. He was fined $250 and given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He must also pay court costs.
