Nick Vassar fired a season-best 42 to lead the Lions; however, his top effort wasn’t enough against a solid DeKalb County squad. The Lions lost 154-179.
Josh Ruehlen also had one of his best efforts of the season with a 45. Hunter Vickers, Jacob Nave and Briar Jakes each shot 46 for the Lions.
Cannon County finished third out of four teams at Mountain Ridge. DeKalb County (159) finished first, followed by Monterey (173), Cannon County (180) and Clarkrange (182).
Vickers and Jakes led the Lions with 42s, followed by Vassar and Ruehlen, each with 48s. Jacob Nave (49) and William Parker (52) also participated but did not factor into the scoring for the Lions.
“We are starting to be more consistent in our scoring,” Coach Ronny Burks said.
The Lions showed more consistency in two matches last week. They will have two weeks to fine tune their game before the district tournament begins Sept. 13.
